Course Description
This is a Spanish language and civic engagement course that combines interviews and photography to engage with the large and diverse Latino population in Durham. In this class, students will learn and improve their Spanish during class meetings and also through interactions with the local Latino community. Class discussions will include civic engagement reflections, movie and book discussions, essay writing, and the creation of a digital archive that will encompass students’ work (interviews and photographs of the Latino community). Photography lessons in class will be offered by a professional photographer, who will teach basic photography concepts, and how to present someone’s story in a visual way. There will be a possibility of display of students’ photographic work on campus or local venue.
